Madalyn K. Shaw (she/her) is a writer and researcher of Jamaican descent, born in Victoria, BC and raised in Fredericksburg, VA. As a graduate of OCAD University in the Contemporary Art, Design, and New Media Art Histories (CADN) program, her research is shaped by studies of plurality and possibility, with a particular emphasis on Black & Caribbean diasporic art, modern and contemporary art & photography, and issues of temporality in art and culture. Her attentiveness to temporality also informs her curatorial work and interest in contemporary globalized identities. Previous projects include the traveling exhibition Defying the Margins (Port-of-Spain, Toronto), as well as the photo exhibition Vodou: un corps singulier pluriel at the Center for the Study of Black Canadian Diaspora in Toronto. Madalyn holds a BA in Art History from Georgetown University and is pursuing a PhD in Art History at the University of Toronto. She is also a tabletop RPG initiate, UFO enthusiast, and occasional playwright.
